Chartreux Insurance

Chartreux cats are easily recognised by their distinctive appearance. They have a medium to large-sized body with a sturdy, muscular build. Their dense, double-layered coat is short to medium in length and comes in a unique blue-grey color, often described as "smoke grey." They have expressive orange or copper eyes that stand out against the grey fur.

Chartreux cats are generally a healthy breed with no known specific genetic predispositions to major health issues. However, like all cats, they can be prone to common feline health concerns such as dental problems, obesity, and kidney disease.

The origin of Chartreux cats traces back to France, particularly to the monasteries of the Carthusian Order. These cats are believed to have been bred by the monks in the Chartreuse region (hence the name "Chartreux") as early as the 16th century. They were valued for their hunting skills in controlling rodent populations in the monasteries.

The breed faced near extinction during World War II but was revived through careful breeding efforts. Today, Chartreux cats are celebrated as a cherished French breed known for their charming appearance and affectionate nature, with their roots deeply embedded in the history of French monastic life.
