Microchipping is the process by which a tiny microchip is inserted under your pet’s skin, giving your pet their own unique code. It is hugely beneficial in reuniting a pet with their owners if they become lost or even if they get stolen, especially if collars or identification tags get caught or removed.
By microchipping your pet, their details are registered on an authorised database. Most domesticated animals - cats, dogs, rabbits, horses etc. - can be microchipped, although make sure you ask your vet for advice first.
As of the 6th April 2016, it is a legal requirement in England to have your dog microchipped from eight weeks old. Your pet insurance will be invalid if your dog has not been microchipped.
